Viktor Gísli Hallgrímsson

Viktor Gísli started his career at young age with Fram in Reykjavík, Iceland.

In 2019 he went from Fram to GOG Handbold in Denmark where he played for 3 years. He is currently playing for HBC Nantes in France.

Viktor played his first games with the Icelandic national team in 2018, at only 18 years old. He also played with the team in the 2020 European Handball Championship, and in the 2021 World Handball Championship.

In 2022 Viktor was voted the All-Star goalkeeper of the European Championship.

Dad told me handball was good for me to become better in football

Viktor Gísli is one of the rising stars in the Icelandic team. At the age of 23, he has already played with two European teams and taken part in significant tournaments with the national team. When asked why he started playing handball, he tells us that his dad encouraged him to do so, perhaps for different reasons than many others who try it out. "My dad said it would make me a better footballer to engage in extra practice in handball."

Do you have any rituals before games? Yes, I do. I try to maintain the same or a similar routine on game days. I aim to go to bed and wake up at similar hours, and I always listen to a specific playlist on Spotify. Additionally, I always go for a solitary walk on a game day.

When asked to name his favorite place in Iceland, he answers "Grafarholtið," a neighbourhood on the outskirts of Reykjavík. It's a pretty nice area for walks and outdoor activities while still being within the city. As for Germany, he mentions Cologne, although he admits not being too familiar with the country.

All handball players have idols they look up to. We are curious to know who Viktor looks up to? Niklas Landin, a great handball player who represents Aalborg in Denmark and plays for the Danish national team.
