Óðinn Þór Ríkharðsson

Óðinn Þór Ríkharðsson, one of the left-handed wings on the Icelandic national team, comes from Kópavogur and started his handball journey with HK. At the age of 18, Óðinn signed with Fram in Reykjavík, before moving to Denmark to play with GOG Håndbold and later TTH Holstebro.

Returning to Iceland in 2021, Óðinn joined KA, Akureyri. During his time at KA, he was temporarily loaned to Gummersbach in Germany before ultimately securing a contract with Kadetten Schaffhausen in Switzerland, where he currently resides.

Despite his young age, Óðinn is an experienced player, but during the 2022-23 season, he emerged as the top scorer in the European League, contributing an impressive 100 goals.

I drink a Nocco before every game

We asked Óðinn how it came about that he started playing handball. "I watched a Championship in January and was immediately intrigued."

When asked about his pre-game routine, he says "I always drink a Nocco before every game". This is a habit he shares with fellow team member Bjarki Már Elísson, but Nocco is one of the most popular energy drinks in Iceland.

Óðinn shares that Hamraborg in Kópavogur is one of his favorite places in Iceland, along with Egilsstaðir, a small town in the east of Iceland. When it comes to Germany, he's fond of Jestetten.

But who is Óðinn's favorite player of all time? "Róbert Julian Duranona".

What is the song you use to get hyped before a game?

I'll go with an Icelandic classic - "Fjöllin hafa vakað" by Egó.
