Elliði Snær was born and raised in the Westman Islands, where he initiated his handball journey at a young age with ÍBV. In 2020, he received an offer to join Gummersbach, prompting his move to Germany, where he currently resides and plays.
In the same year, Elliði made his debut with the national team. Throughout his time in Germany, he has proven to be a successful player, ranking among the top scorers in terms of goals.
When asked about the reason for starting to play handball, Elliði makes it sound like there was no decision to be made; "I come from a place (Westman Islands) where handball is very important, and I was brought up watching my hometown team, ÍBV, and the national team. I guess it happened very naturally."
As for any specific rituals before games, Elliði mentions, "I try to go for a short walk on a game day."
When questioned about his favorite place in Iceland, he immediately names the Westman Islands, the very place that shaped his future. In Germany, he expresses his fondness for Gummersbach, where he currently resides.
Elliði reveals that his all-time favorite player is the French center-back, Daniel Narcisse, who also, like Elliði played for Gummersbach, although at a different time.
